Movie: Teleportation
Director: Susan Mey Lee Lim
“But the heart is not like a box that gets filled up. It expands in size the more you love. I’m different from you. This doesn’t make me love you any less. It actually makes me love you more.”
- Samantha, Her dir. Spike Jonze
Love is a little complicated. It does not have an easy path, rather a person in love must have enough courage to change the course of the world! Love can make one go crazy, and can make another rational. Love is one of the most celebrated emotions, and when there is Love, there is life!
The little animated music video of “Teleportation” is such an amazing story of love and dedication and earnestness! The movie deals with the recurring
theme of life within the inanimate objects and how they also possess the power to love and transform themselves ignoring all the rules and boundaries. The main character of this sweet little music video is Alan, a plushy toy. Alan loves a human girl so much that it wishes for its soul to be teleported. Further, Alan also dreams of a quantum entanglement with its human companion, so that they may be together in an inanimate-human partnership for eternity.
The video shows us a subversion of Objectophilia as Alan, the object here, wishes to be one with its human love.Through Alan, Susan conveys the age old truth – Love does not have to adhere to the rules set by society. Love is for all, irrespective of their cultural, societal or economic identity, and here Alan shows us the true power of love that can even have the power to transcend the barriers of reality.
Director Lim is a Surgeon, scientist, playwright, lyricist by nature. She also happens to be a creative director of a project centred on the future companionship between humans and inanimates. The entire research work is enabled through the new sciences of synthetic DNA, and the technologies of Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Physics. Susan aims to address the global challenge of loneliness and the need for new approaches. Her area of interest has been the concept of companionship in this new changing world.
The entire project originated in Singapore, while the filming and post production was done in India.
While the story was co-written by Samudra Kajal Saikia and Christina Teenz Tan, Susan herself penned the song which talks about human connections and earnestness. Samudra, Susan have also produced this project along with Manu Martin and executive producer Deepak Sharma.
The beautiful track is led by composers Joi Barua and Manu Martin. The music is pleasing and has every quality of staying in the mind of the viewers for a long time.
While the lyrics of this music video are heartfelt, the video is very colourful. The cheerful colour palette instantly lifts up the viewers’ mood and teleports them to a fantasy world.
Overall, Susan has tried her best to present an emotional and touching story through this project. The movie is commendable as her earnestness shows through the lyrics.
The movie is extremely relevant as it shows how the dynamics of relationships work and how much people are eager to be heard, seen and understood by the entire world.
